Report on the organization of AOSP2006

Number of participants: 88 foreign and 59 domestic, with a total of > 140. The local society is The Chinese Commision for Photobiology, a branch in The Biophysics Society of China. Work was started from June 2005, with many e-mails sent to national representatives. In November 2005, Pill-Soon Song came to Beijing to discuss with local organizing committee. Support was obtained from Japan, Korea, Australia member societies. Conference was supported by funds from Chinese Association for Science and Technology, National Science Foundation of China, and from ChanSn Instrument (China) Ltd, ETS. The conference provided all meals so that full scientific discussions are ensured during the meeting.
Nomination of new national / regional representatives
The guiding principles for nominating representatives are as follows: two members from each nation / region should be nominated by the each member society. The representatives should officially represent their own member photobiology society or group. The members of the AOSP Board must be the official representatives of member societies. New board will not include previous board members who have not responded to AOSP communications in the past two years, especially to AOSP communications regarding the succeeding conference organization.
China, Japan, Korea, Australia and New Zealand each nominated their new representatives, whereas some other nation / region will nominate their representatives after further discussion with their member society.
Xun Shen automatically becomes the new President of AOSP at the conclusion of this round table meeting.

Other nations / regions can be added when necessary subject to the regulations of AOSP.
AOSP council are now composed of all past presidents, all national representatives, and a secretary general (Ya Ning Liu), an auditor (M. Mimuro will serve as auditor until a new one is nominated by the President).
Determination of the host for AOSP2008
Janet Bornman: will drum up some support in New Zealand and Australia for a possible future AOSP conference in that region.
Japan: will not bid this time.
Chinese Taipei: Ta-Chau Chang: just a guest this time.
India: C. Haldar made a formal presentation. The candidate site will be Varanasi in North India, an ancient city and tourist center, with connecting daily flights from New Delhi. The venue will be Banaras Hindu University (established 1916). The site has an auditorium for up to 2000 people. BHU Dept. Zoology (established 1921) will be the local host, which has 32 faculty members. University guest houses can accommodate up to 150 delegates. Commercial hotels are nearby. Has secured funds from The Indian Government and BHU (USD 20 000). The AOSP2008 conference will support up to 10 young students to the conference. Registration fee will not be more than 250 USD, which will include room and meals for 4 days.
All present at the round table meeting supported India as the host for AOSP2008 by raising their hands.
Vote for President-elect. The host for AOSP2008 automatically becomes the President-elect. And the last President-elect automatically becomes President. The new President is now Xun Shen, and President-elect is C. Haldar.
Other suggested items.
Mimuro as auditor for previous council reported the financial status of AOSP. At start of Pill-Soon Song’s term as President, balance was 500,000 JY, now balance at 166,000 JY.
Xun Shen, the new President raised the issue about society membership dues. Members consent to further discussions.
Robert Liu suggested possibility about other US states such as Oklahoma, Ohio to join AOSP.
PPS is the official journal of AOSP. Editor-in-Asia is Pill-Soon Song.
The official AOSP website will probably remain in Korea, but will be maintained from China.
