Constitution
I. FUNCTIONS
The Asia and Oceania Society for Photobiology is a non-profit organization. Its purpose is to stimulate the scientific research in the fields of photochemistry and photobiology.
In fulfillment of this purpose, AOSP initiates arrangements for Asia and Oceania Conference on Photobiology and for other meetings as appropriate. The AOSP comprises national and international photobiology groups and individual members.
II. ORGANIZATION
The organization of AOSP is set out as follows:
- a) The General Assembly is composed of the delegates of national and international groups, individual members and the Executive Committee.
- b) The Executive Committee consists of :
1) two delegates from each national and district group;
2) members of the Board.
The President of AOSP is Chairman of the Executive Committee. - c) The Board of AOSP is composed of President, President-Elect, Past Presidents, Secretary-General and Treasurer. Members of the Board are elected by the General Assembly on the occasion of AOSP conference. The Board of AOSP elects Secretary-General. The Executive Committee may itself elect any of these officers including the Auditor
The term of office for a member of the Board terminates at the close of each AOSP biennial conference.
III. ADMINISTRATION
The Executive Committee is convened by President at least every two years. It ensures that the affairs of AOSP are conducted in accordance with the decisions of the General Assembly. In addition, it has the following special functions:
- a) admission of new national and district groups;
- b) preparation for the election of new members of the Board by the General Assembly
- c) appointment of a national group responsible for the organization of
next AOSP or other meetings of AOSP:
In order to ensure that the organization of the AOSP or other meetings conforms the general lines of AOSP policy, the Executive Committee cooperates with the national groups in the organization and financial arrangements and in planning the scientific program of the Congress or meetings.
The administration of AOSP is the responsibility of the Secretary-General, to which all important questions should be submitted for approval. Its function includes:
- a) to maintain contact with the national and district groups, and to assist in the formation and affiliation of new ones;
- b) to decide upon the affiliation of individual members;
- c) to record and distribute the Minutes of the General Assembly and of Executive Committee meetings.
IV. MEMBERSHIP
The AOSP recognizes as members:
- a) those from affiliated national or district photobiology groups. The membership of a group is not limited in number, but no group may appoint more than three members as delegates to a General Assembly. Each group shall appoint a secretary who is responsible for maintaining contact between the group and the AOSP Committee, which he/she shall keep informed of his/her group’s activities.
- b) individual members recognized by AOSP only in those countries having no national or district group. Where there are fewer than ten members, they may affiliate as individual members.
V. AMENDMENTS
Amendments to this constitution may be initiated by members of the Executive Committee or by a petition to the Committee signed by ten Individual Members of the AOSP. Amendments must be approved by a two-thirds majority of the Executive Committee, and must be ratified by a majority of Individual Members, voting at the General Assembly.
